Kids Programming Classes

In this Hands-on program from Science Cosmos, Kindergarten and Pre K Students learn age appropriate concepts of force, speed, predicting and measuring, They do this by building models with LEGO Duplo bricks. Fun models like a pinwheel, Car, Goal Kicker, etc. Working in pairs, together they learn measurement of distance, time, weight; counting, calculating, and problem-solving. They even learn to observe and analyze and enter their testing data on worksheets. This is a popular class where students actively build, explore and learn while having Fun! (Ages 4 and 5)

Lego Robot Animals

In this Hands-on program from Science Cosmos, 1st Grade Students learn concepts related to robotics and programming. Working as budding robotic engineers students use the WeDo Lego Robotics platform and build lego models bases on many themes that they can relate to, such as dancing birds, flying, soccer. Students work in Pairs and build Lego Robot models featuring working motors and sensors and they program their models using a graphic drag and drop software interface. Subsequently they modify the model’s behavior by changing the construction of the model or the software program. This is a popular class that is enjoyable for a budding robot engineer.   (Ages 5 and 6)

STEAMing Gaming

Kids Programming Classes

The Minecraft STEAM Learning course retains the magic of the Minecraft video game, while adding elements to it that facilitate learning concepts in S.T.E.A.M (Science Technology Engineering Arts Math). It is a powerful bridge between physical and virtual classrooms, fostering critical 21st century skills. Student learn age appropriate Lessons in a way they immensely enjoy, aligned with curriculum standards.

Unlike traditional Minecraft the STEAM learning course offers a controlled or coated environment rather than an open-ended Minecraft world. Being in the Minecraft world makes it irresistible and Kids explore and learn by observation and problem solving.

Intermediate STEM

Kids Programming Classes

Learning science and engineering with Legos is fun indeed! This course enables students to work as young scientists and engineers, helping them to investigate and understand the operation of simple machines found in everyday life. They build models with Legos and other materials while learning concepts in Science, Technology, Engineering, Math (STEM).The program provides an enjoyable yet challenging environment in which students can develop skills such as creative problem-solving, communication of ideas, and teamwork. They learn while at the same time having Fun! Students experience the mechanical and structural principles normally hidden away inside everyday machines and structures and understand how to apply these principles.(Ages 8-10)

Lego EV3 Programming

This enables students to work as young robotic engineers. Students Build, Program and Test Robots built using the LEGO Mindstorms platform. They learn how to build robots incorporating various Sensors and Motors. In this course they learn how to Navigate the software Graphic robot Programing interface. Students learn how to use the Sound Sensor, Light Sensor, and Ultrasonic Sensors. Why robotics? Because it’s exciting for students and is the premier vehicle for hands-on delivery of science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) concepts to students. Our robotics program provides an enjoyable yet challenging classroom environment in which students can develop important 21st-century skills such as creative problem-solving, communication of ideas, collaboration, creativity, critical thinking, and teamwork. Alexander Frey

Science Mind of the Month- January Chantilly

January’s Science Mind of the Month, Alexander Frey, is a huge fan of Lego’s and Coding. Alexander has been attending Science Cosmos alongside his sister since early 2015. Thanks to his desire to finish his projects, he has been able to complete curriculums that are beyond his age group.

Alexander says his favorite project was the “hammer” in Intermediate STEM because “it was fun to build with all the many pieces”. His ability to work on both STEM and Coding during his weekly classes has allowed Alexander to become comfortable with two essentials parts of our program. He is close to finishing Intermediate STEM and will have the opportunity to work on more advanced coding curriculums! Alexander is a joy to have in the classroom and we hope to continue seeing him grow here at Science Cosmos!

Michaela Frey

Science Mind of the Month- December Chantilly

December’s Science Mind of the Month, Michaela Frey, is a very motivated student. Michaela has been attending Science Cosmos since early 2015 and has been breezing through curriculums since the start. Her determination has allowed for her to complete more than 4 curriculums!

Michaela enjoys coming to Science Cosmos because “she gets to learn new things each lesson”. Her ability to work independently has helped her promptly complete all of her assigned tasks and challenges. Michaela’s favorite project has been the “Robot Maze Challenge” which required her to program an EV3 robot to successfully complete a maze in less than 30 minutes! Michaela has been able to complete both our NXT and EV3 curriculums, which has allowed her to recently start working on our Robot C course. Her love for programming will allow her to continue learning more and more about the amazing world of programming. We are very proud to have Michaela at Science Cosmos and we expect her to continue surprising us with her ability to program!
